Edinburgh Tour Guides
About us
Our Company History
Sam Thomson and Steve Thomson founded Edinburgh Tour guides in 2000. Sam and Steve had plenty experience in the tours and travel industry before starting their own company, both working in Edinburgh, but being lucky enough to drive groups further into Scotland.
The company started with walking tours of Edinburgh to small groups, that was when Sam happened to take Rick Steve's on a Royal Mile Tour and received an outstanding review. From that moment, the company has grown to offer tours throughout Scotland.
It has become quite the family affair. You might receive an email from Rose Thomson, see photographs taken by Lily Thomson, or be guided by Josh Thomson, and if there is a problems with the website, well that's me Kyle Thomson. You can see that the Thomson's all have their strengths, but the real strength is local knowledge and experience.
Clan Thomson
We are family-run company, run by the Thomson clan. In 1822 George IV visited Edinburgh to visit his "New Town". He was encouraged by Sir Walter Scott to wear the traditional highland dress and thus Clan Tartans were born. The Thomson/Mactavish Clan has may traditional Tartans.
Be sure to ask our guides about their tartan! Each has its own history.
Knowledgable Guides
Our guides are all local Scottish people, that between them have over 100 years of experience. With a vast array of knowledge of Scotland and it's storied history we will be able to answer any question that you may have. Just ask your guide and they will be happy to help.
A Unique Experience
Having a private guide leads to a unique experience for each traveler. Everybody has different travel plans and we are here to accommodate your needs. If you want to see specific sights or go at your own pace, we provide this service. Let us know your interests and we can cater the tour to you.
Sustainability
Here at Edinburgh Tour Guides we are conscious of our environmental impact. Scotland prides itself on using renewable energy. To ensure we are environmentally friendly, we plant trees with Trees For Life for every multi-day tour carried out.
