Why Choose a Winter Tour?
Winter is a quieter season for tourism in Scotland, and the reduced crowds mean you’ll have more personal space to enjoy the sites at a leisurely pace. The beauty of the winter weather in Scotland makes for many unique days. From great sunshine “golden hours” to snow covered streets and the beauty of snow. The weather is sure to provide a magical backdrop to Edinburgh’s historic architecture and surrounding landscapes. Our winter tours are thoughtfully designed to maximise the shorter daylight hours, ensuring that you get the most out of every moment, even in the heart of winter. And if you are visiting in December Scotland’s festive markets, winter flavours and Christmas lights are definitely going to make the experience more magical!
In fact, the vibrant and festive nature of Edinburgh is one of my favourite things during, what is usually, a colder and darker time of year. Two of my favourite things about winter in Scotland, Edinburgh specifically, are the Princes Street Gardens winter lights and George Street’s festive decorations. Princes Street Gardens is great because you can walk through the gardens and witness a stunning light display with trees that are lumiated and festive with decorations all around. It benefits from leading into the winter markets which is a great place to stop and grab a hot chocolate or snack before my second favourite place, George Street. George Street is typically where the outdoor ice rink is placed so there is no shortage of seasonal aspects. For me though, again, the bright lights and decorations bring George Street to life during the winter and really emphasise that festive atmosphere in Edinburgh.
